Lion dance

Today we had a Lion dance tutor come into OC.
A lot of people expected it to be a line dance. we had to pair up into two. once we got to the hall we lined up and waited for the current class to leave, once we  went in we sat in our pairs and he told us a few things, his name is winsome, in the northern part of china the lion costumes are more fluffy and in the southern part they are less fluffy,
the costume is called lion because nobody knew what lions looked like that is why it has a mix or different animal-like features. the difference between a lion and a dragon is, the lion is much shorter and contains less people, the dragon is long and has many more people.

Winsome had 4 lion costume a red one, light yellow, dark yellow and white one.
In the lion costumes there needs to have two people to work it, one for the front/head and one for the back/body. in the lion costume there is a string you have to pull to work the eyes and the ears.
The person in the front has to wear a scarf-like piece of fabric around their waist so that the person behind them working the back can hold onto it and support their balance.

there wasn't enough costumes for everyone so he took them in two groups. We didn't do anything too crazy, I didn't want to get in a costume so I watched, and they were really fluffy and cute.

About Labour Weekend

on labour weekend I didn't do much because my mum wasn't home.but me and my sister had to wash our dads car. Usually when we clean the cars me and my sister fight for the hose because we don't want to get wet. I was scared my sister would get revenge for the last time because I purposely got her wet last time. me and her agreed to not getting wet, until we had just finished, she sprayed me with the hose. Later on when my mum got home, after dinner, mum lit a bonfire to get rid of sticks and trees. I went out to hang out with them but there was a lot of smoke and I dislike the smell

School goals

For my maths I plan to get better at my timetables, geometry, problem solving and division.
I currently do timetables games to improve my timetables and get faster at doing them. DIMIC helped me get used to working with different people and having to get up in front of the class.
We're started a new thing similar to DIMIC but we don't do it in groups, we do it on our own on a slideshow I want to move up more levels in prototec before the year ends I need to get better at being in groups with people I'm not used to working with and getting better at communicating because
I'm not used to it, it makes me nervous, I work better in groups with people i'm okay talking to
For my reading I would like to get better at reading faster so I can keep up with the rest of the class. I also am really bad at reading out loud in groups that have lots of people in them, I need to gain more confidence in talking to others that I'm not used to speaking with.
For my group work I usually am really quiet which I need to work on, and I need to participate more. I'm a shy person around people other then my friends which I'll continue to work on for now

 Rā Haka Day

Last Friday 21.5.21 was Rā Haka day and pink shirt day!

Sadly I didn't go to school on Friday but I would have enjoyed doing the Kowai ra with my friends if I went. I would have enjoyed doing the games on the courts. All of my friends were dressed up so I would have liked to dress up with them and take funny photos.

I feel like I wouldn't be confident but i'd try my best.

Goals for school work

My years at college I hope to get better at maths, the majority of jobs require being good at maths (and its just something important to learn.) Cooking class prepares you for when your parents/ or guardian can't cook for you anymore or for when you don't live with anyone that will help.
Readings important to me because it helps me remember especially the subject and purpose of the thing i'm reading

Pair comment: It's really good! I agree with what you think when it comes to cooking

Science Roadshow

Yesterday (Tuesday 31.3.21) We had a Science Roadshow in Ōtaki College hall.

Once we got to the hall all of the year 7 and year 8 classes were sitting down facing two girls in front of their desk. once everyone was there Two girls named Jess and Mary.

Jess and Mary had a slideshow which had a recap of what we did with them, Jess and Mary made multiple explosions,

I found out you could pop a balloon using just orange skins! and that you could make a mini tornado made out of fire

after the first show with Jess and Mary we got to walked around freely to have a look at the other cool science stuff that was set up

My favourite thing was the scents( where you have to smell something and guess which fruit it was)

and the Curtain, for the curtain you had to go inside and sit on the stool inside, the girl would turn it on and it'd spin fast, on the outside it was pink and the inside and had and white strips.

The strips would cause it to look blurry. but when it stopped your eyesight was normal again

Once our time was over we went and sat back down, this time there was another girl, her name is Steph, Mary had gone but Jess was still there

They asked for a volunteer and a boy named Jayden put his hand up first so he went up to help

He put this weird jelly thing in a clear liquid(i don't think it was water)  then he picked it up and it was long and skinny.

The second time he did it, it was in a different liquid but it was still clear, he put the Jelly stuff in and tried to pick it up but he couldn't

After that we left

Kia kaha buddies Y13

Today on the 26th of February two year 13's came to our class, Their names are Jayda and Oriwa.

They took us outside so we all stood in a circle-ish shape. it had to be a boy next to a girl and a boy next to the girl, so on. We had to say our name and what we were looking forward to in the weekend, then we played bang. Bang is a game where you call out someones name and then quickly crouch down the people beside you have to point their fingers and say bang the person who says bang first wins and the other sits down.

After that we played Bull-rush. After those games we went back inside for the next period and Jayda and Oriwa left.
